Upgrading to efficient water-saving plumbing fixtures helps to conserve water and lower your household’s water bills! Below is a list of the plumbing fixtures we recommend and how much water they can save.
High-Efficiency Toilet (HET)
As technology advances, so do toilets! Today’s newest models are not only efficient, but they look better too! Newer toilets often come with a dual flush option, providing you the choice to use a half flush or a full flush to save water. These modern toilets use on average 1.6 gallons of water for a full flush. Alternatively, the majority of older toilets use up to 6 gallons of water per flush! This amount of water can really add up over time.
Quality Shower Head
Its important to keep in mind that installing a water-saving shower head does not necessarily mean that you will have less water pressure. The average shower head uses 2.5 gallons of water per minute (GPM), where as a water-saving shower heads use just around 2 gallons per minute. That half gallon of water can really add up – in just one year you can save approximately 1,825 gallons of water! Remember to make sure your new shower head fits on the shower arm correctly to avoid leaks and to call a professional if you need help finding and installing the right shower valve for your home.
Water-Saving Faucets
Water-saving faucets also significantly cut down on the gallons of water used per minute. The newest models can save you up to 30% on your monthly water bills as they use 1.5 GMP as opposed to standard faucets using just over 2.2 GMP. If you are worried about losing water pressure from your sink, look into aerator-equipped faucets which save up to a gallon of water per minute, while maintaining high water pressure using the aerator method which injects air into the stream. This displaces water without reducing flow, pressure, or rinse capability.
Water-Saving Dishwashers & Washing Machines
Want to take a guess at how many gallons of water a standard washing machine uses per load?
The answer is up to 23 gallons! Water-saving washers cut this number in half while still giving you nice clean clothes and lowering your water bills. It has been proven that using a dishwasher can save water compared to running the sink to hand wash each dish, but did you know that water-saving dishwashers can save up to 4 gallons of water per load! These modern models are designed to work efficiently with less water as they clean your clothes and dishes all while lowering your water bill.
Why Save Water?
As we mentioned throughout this post, saving water will of course lower your monthly water bills. However, it is very important to conserve water in an effort to reduce environmental impact. Water shortages may not directly impact where you live yet, but they are already a significant problem in places like California, Texas, and Atlanta. Every drop of water saved makes a difference and upgrading to water efficient plumbing fixtures will save thousands of gallons a year! Call us today for a free estimate or to schedule service. If you are not in the market to upgrade your plumbing fixtures at this time, you can still try water saving tips such as turning off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving, checking faucets and pipes for leaks on a regular basis, taking shorter showers, and waiting for a full load before running the washer.
