It has been a hot and humid summer so far and as August begins, we would like to remind you of a few things you can do to get the most out of your A/C system.
1. Clear area surrounding outdoor unit on a regular basis
The easiest way to keep up with the perimeter of your unit is to check it every time you tend to your regular yard work, being sure to remove any buildup of plants, tall grasses, and weeds around the outside of your unit. If there is a build up of debris blocking the airflow, it will prevent you’r A/C from running at top efficiency. It is a good habit to maintain the surrounding area of your unit to reduce possible issues that may interfere with your system. 2. Avoid opening and closing your doors and windows too much
It is important to avoid opening windows and doors as much as possible while your system is running. Your A/C unit senses the ambient air temperature and works to get the air to match the settings you have selected by cycling on and off. If the doors and windows are being opened too often in your home, then the temperature will rise accordingly and your system will have to work that much harder to adjust.
3. Utilize your ceiling fans
Utilizing ceiling fans can make a big difference in your home’s airflow and feel. When you use a ceiling fan, the counterclockwise rotating blades direct the airflow downward. This prevents hot air from rising, which eventually signals the A/C to kick on. This downward movement of air blows towards the spaces we sit, sleep, and dwell in, creating a wind-chill effect. For this reason, you will find that you are able to set the A/C a few degrees higher than usual and still be comfortable. 4. Invest in window tints or films
This is a great investment that can actually provide you with energy savings year round. By tinting your windows or installing a film, you are reducing both the heat and glare from the sun, therefore you’re A/C doesn’t have to work as hard to keep your home cool. A window tint will also act as an insulator during the winter months, saving you money on your heating system. Lastly, the tint is beneficial in offering you and your family privacy and security as well as UV protection.
5. Schedule annual maintenance checks with a professional
