Remodeling your bathroom can be an exciting time, but it can also be relatively stressful. Check out this post for some common mistakes that can be avoided to make the remodeling process a breeze.
#1 No Ventilation
Be sure to include an exhaust fan in your bathroom remodeling plans as they are crucial in rooms that have a lot of moisture in them. Exhaust fans work by sucking humid air out of a small area, allowing fresh air to enter from elsewhere to replace it. The warm and moist air that’s pulled out is then pushed through a ducting system and expelled outside. This helps to reduce condensation and keep the paint in the room from bubbling. Ideally, you should be running the exhaust fan while the shower is running and then at least 15 minutes afterwards. We highly recommend Panasonic’s WhisperGreen Select Exhaust Fan, found here.
We’ve included a short video of the instillation process below:
#2 Mismatched Fixtures
While you might like the bronze faucet and the chrome faucet, this is not the time to employ the “one of each” philosophy. It is best to pick one metal and one style and stick with those throughout the updated space.
On the topic of fixtures, you’ll want to go with the classic over trendy. Remember the baby pink or avocado green toilets from the 60’s? Don’t make that mistake again. Especially since a toilet can last you almost 30 years, you’ll want to be sure and pick a color that you’ll be happy with for years to come.
#3 Layout
One of the worst mistakes you can make in a bathroom is not planning the layout well. If you make a mistake in this step, you could potentially end up with a door that can’t open all the way because it runs into the toilet, or a sink and vanity with no nearby outlet. You will want to take your time measuring and drawing out a layout that will work best for your space.
